Does the Volvo Xc90 (V6) require premium fuel? I know that most volvos don't, so does this?

It shouldn't, as it shares its engine with most of the other volvos. I know on the xc60 premium is recommended, but not required.

Volvo recommends 91 AKI but minimum is 87 AKI. (scoured the volvo forums and that seems to be the opinion)
I always run premium in my car (not a Volvo), I did a month trial on regular and a month trial on premium and came out ~7c per tank better off on the premium.

My Volvo doesn't technically require premium, but it gets grumpy when I give it anything less than 93 (I don't have 91 Option).
